Psychiatric evaluation may include a detailed clinical interview, review of medical and psychiatric history, and evidence-based screening or assessment tools when appropriate.
A diagnosis isn't based on a single questionnaire. Information from the entire evaluation is considered together to develop a clinical picture and discuss recommendations with you.

Medication may be recommended when clinically appropriate, but it isn't automatically the answer for every concern.
Before making treatment decisions, we'll discuss potential benefits, risks, alternatives, and your preferences. When medication is prescribed, effectiveness and potential side effects are monitored over time.
Benzodiazepines may be prescribed when clinically appropriate, but they are used cautiously because of risks including tolerance, dependence, withdrawal, sedation, and medication interactions.
A previous prescription does not guarantee that a benzodiazepine will be prescribed or continued.
Treatment decisions are based on individual clinical circumstances, risks and benefits, and available alternatives.
Stimulant medication may be prescribed when clinically appropriate following a thorough evaluation.
A previous ADHD diagnosis or stimulant prescription does not guarantee that stimulant treatment will be prescribed or continued.
Treatment decisions consider diagnosis, medical and psychiatric history, current medications, potential risks and benefits, and appropriate monitoring. Non-stimulant options may also be discussed.

York Psychiatry is an outpatient psychiatric practice and does not provide emergency or crisis services.

Your first appointment is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation.
We'll discuss your current concerns, medical and psychiatric history, medications, sleep, lifestyle, stressors, relevant life experiences, and treatment goals.
You'll also have time to ask questions and discuss what matters to you.
Treatment is collaborative. Recommendations are made with you, not simply for you.
That depends on your individual needs, medications, treatment plan, and progress.
Appointments may be more frequent when starting or changing medication so that response and potential side effects can be monitored.
Once treatment is stable, visits may be spaced farther apart.
Certain medications, including controlled substances, may require more frequent monitoring.

In-person appointments are available on Fridays at the White River Junction, Vermont office.

With your consent and when clinically appropriate, I can communicate with your therapist, primary care clinician, women's health provider, or other members of your healthcare team.

If your insurance includes out-of-network benefits, York Psychiatry can provide a superbill that you may submit for possible reimbursement.
